Abstract

There is a great interest for systems architectures in the ITS-domain, and there are several architecture activities going on in different parts of the world. One example is The National Architecture for ITS in USA, another example is the work done by ISO/TC204/WG1. Architecture initiatives are also going on in Japan, Korea, Australia, and Europe. In Europe the major architecture initiative is called Keystone Architecture Required for European Networks (KAREN). The purpose of this paper is to present some experiences from the work of developing a systems architecture in reality. In a research project architectural work at the national road administration in Sweden has been studied. The paper also relates the work done on systems architecture in the ITS-domain to research made on systems architectures in other business contexts. For the covering abstract see ITRD E114174.
