Abstract
The problem of jack-knifing is only too well known. What is not so well known, however, is why it happens and what can be done to prevent it. At the Road Research Laboratory we have carried out many thousands of braking tests over the last few years on more than a hundred artics of all types, and this practical experience has been invaluable in the study of jack-knifing.
