Mobilität ist die Basis des wirtschaftlichen Erfolgs Deutschlands. Sie prägt entscheidend unsere Lebensqualität. Nur eine moderne, leistungsstarke, umwelt- und ressourcenschonende sowie effiziente Verkehrsinfrastruktur ist in der Lage, diese Mobilität auch in Zukunft zu sichern. Integraler und zentraler Teil dieser Infrastruktur ist das System Straße. In den nächsten Jahren gilt es, die Straße intelligent und unter ökonomischen Gesichtspunkten zu erhalten und weiter zu entwickeln. Der Mensch als Nutzer des Verkehrssystems steht hierbei stets im Mittelpunkt, besonders wenn es um die Sicherheit jedes einzelnen Verkehrsteilnehmers geht. Die Forschung der BASt trägt entscheidend dazu bei, dass Unfälle vermieden und, wenn es doch zu einem Unfall kommt, Unfallfolgen in ihrer Auswirkung auf den Menschen reduziert werden können. Kommunikation ist und bleibt hier das Schlüsselwort. Und diese nicht allein als Bestandteil der fachlichen Arbeit etwa bei der Optimierung der Kommunikation von Mensch zu Mensch, wie bei der Verkehrserziehung, oder von Mensch und Maschine, wie im Falle eines Fahrerassistenz- oder Informationssystems. Insbesondere die Gestaltung der Kommunikationsbrücken zwischen Wissenschaft und Praxis, zwischen Politik und Industrie sowie zwischen Verwaltung und Gesellschaft stehen im Zentrum der Arbeit der Bundesanstalt. In diesem Sinne informiert der vorliegende Jahresbericht mit 33 Fachbeiträgen aus den oben angesprochenen Themengebieten über aktuelle Forschungsarbeiten der BASt. Informationen zum Personal und Haushalt, zum Qualitätsmanagement, zu internationalen Aktivitäten und zur Öffentlichkeitsarbeit runden den Bericht ab. (Author/publisher) English abstract: Mobility is the foundation of economic success of Germany and has an important impact on our life quality. Only a modern, powerful and efficient traffic infrastructure that preserves resources and the environment is able to ensure this mobility in future. The road system is an integral and central part of this infrastructure. It is therefore important that the road system is developed intelligently, taking into account economic principles. These activities must focus on the users of the traffic system, in particular where the safety of each traffic participant is at stake. The research work of the BASt provides a major contribution to accident prevention and to reducing the consequences of accidents for the users. Communication remains the key issue. It not only concerns specialised work like the optimisation of communication between humans, for example in traffic education, or of the communication between humans and machines, for example with driver assistance and information systems. The development of communication links between science and practical application, between politics and industry as well as between administration and society receives particular attention at the Federal Institute. The present annual report provides relevant information in 33 specialised contributions concerning current research work at the BASt in the fields described above.
