Abstract

The construction of car-free residential areas is one of the starting points for the national policy. However, the development of such a policy is difficult, because there is a doubt by the local authorities and the investors that future residents really want to buy or to rent a house in such an area, when they cannot park the car in front of their door or in the near neighbourhood of their house. But this report shows that the demand for houses in car free residential areas is greater than expected. Opportunities and handicaps for car free residential areas such as criteria for the selection of suitable building locations, quality of living, financial aspects, mobility, service provisions and administration, and accessibility are studied.
