Abstract

In order to evaluate policy measures the present and future developments of inland road transport are discussed. As a result of the continuing increase of loading volume and a decreasing demand for transport a surplus capacity exits. It is argued that existing policy measures can be supplemented by measures directed at reducing surplus capacity and at improving the profit ability of the transport industry.
