Abstract

The purpose of this study is to make a survey of traffic safety teaching and training programmes carried out in the comprehensive school. This will hopefully lead to better knowledge and ideas which can be applied to other schools. The survey is divided into two studies. Phase I, which is directed towards the local governments and phase II, directed towards schools. In both studies, data were collected by postal questionnaires. The results of phase I show that there are substantial variations between local governments concerning common guiding principles, e.g. amount of time and content. The majority declare the absence of such guiding principles. In phase II, 80% of the schools state that they have traffic safety teaching in the junior and in the intermediate stage. The share decreases to 60-70% in the senior level. The content is primarily focused on training in different road user roles, traffic rules and road signs. (A)
