Abstract
The secondary and tertiairy road network in the Netherlands was studied on the safety of road sections of the different road categories. Data were collected on characteristics of locations traffic and accident on a sample of ± 5% of this road network. The safety was elaborated in the quotient of accidents and the use of these roads. The backgrounds for the choice of this type of indicator as well as the method of calculation are described in detail.
