This report extensively describes victims of serious accidents involving mopeds and motor-assisted bicycles (In Dutch: "snorfietsen") and the characteristics of these accidents, in The Netherlands. The description of accidents is dealt with on the basis of the road situation. On a road section inside built-up areas, 85 mopeds/motor-assisted bicycles collided with a motor vehicle coming out of an exit or parking area. In addition, 60 mopeds/motor-assisted bicycles were hit by motor vehicles entering a driveway or parking area. Inside built-up areas, 120 mopeds/motor-assisted bicycles driving on the main road of an intersection with priority rule collided with a motor vehicle approaching from a side road. Inside built-up areas, 110 mopeds/motor-assisted bicycles collided with a motor vehicle driving on the main road of a controlled intersection, while they themselves approached from a side road. A similar group is formed by the 115 mopeds/motor-assisted bicycles who collided on an uncontrolled intersection with a motor vehicle approaching from a side road. Inside built-up areas, 95 moped riders were severely injured, because they either fell on a straight road section, fell in a bend, or left the road. Outside built-up areas, this occurred 75 times.
