Abstract

The object of the study was to prove that the sue of the segment method can save time and money and that moreover fringe benefits (i.e. thematic/schematic maps) can be obtained. Especially in a time period of economic recession and expense curtailments, the main conclusion of the study is that the segment method offers an important tool to refuce costs and to save time, while a better and more efficient product, i.e. information, on thematic maps, for local planning and policy making can be supplied.
