Abstract

To prevent acidification of lakes and waterflows a proposal has been made to use crushed limestone as a gritting material in the winter time. This report contains an inventory of limestone deposits and pits in Sweden, including a classification of the different materials regarding their suitability for gritting. The inventory comprises only the collection and listing of existing information, primarily literature. No field studies have been executed. The different types of limestone available in Sweden and their properties are briefly discussed. Also the necessary properties of limestone used as gritting material are described. The inventory consists of tables containing information on sites of pits, quality etc. (A)
