Abstract

The object of this publication is to provide designers with answers to various practical questions related to the use of central reserves for different types of intersections (T-junctions and crossroads; intersections with and without traffic lights). To this end, the study findings were converted into useful design premises. Special attention was also focused on the safety of bicycles and mopeds in traffic. Designers can use a selection to weight the use of central reserves (and left-turn lanes). The intensity of traffic on intersecting roads is the most important input data for this. After answering a few other questions about traffic conditions, the user is referred to one of more than eight pages of facilities, which contain descriptions of the intersections' area of application and types of design. The preferable solution and the considerations on which this decision is based is also stated.
