Abstract

This paper presents the relation between the development in the delays for train passengers and the delays of trains in the last years. Originally, the relation train punctuality - reliability of travel time - travel behaviour was the subject for the research. However, this extended research has proved to be too complex. Under certain assumptions, the relation between train punctuality and travel flows has been analysed. It turned out that the number of train journeys without delays has increased between 1997/1998 and 1999/2000. In 1999/2000, major (in terms of number of passengers) trains had lesser delays than minor trains. Also, major connections have been missed less than minor connections. The approach followed, seems to be a workable method. (A) For the covering abstract of the conference see ITRD E206647.
