Abstract

One of the most important measures of the Dutch government to reduce the use of private cars are parking measures. An investigation was conducted to describe the effects of parking measures. The results are sorted with the help of an analytic model in which measures and effects are combined. In total, 86 sources were found with quantitative information regarding effects of parking measures. Conclusions may be drawn on: (1) introduction of parking charges; (2) increasing parking charges; and (3) on reducing the number of parking spaces. It was found that most effects may be expected on work related travel. Introducing or increasing parking charges may result in a shift from private car to other travel ./.F3
