Abstract

The growth of car-ownership has much affected society. The automobile has improved the accessibility of territories that previously were hard to reach by public transportation. Quantitative modelling studies show that the effectiveness of measures improving the public transportation system in favour of environmental goals, are strongly overestimated. Even the so-called "push- measures" limiting car traffic seem to have little effectiveness after quantifying the results.
