Abstract

Following the alarming occurence of accidents due to roadworks, the Essonne region decided to apply an overall approach to the problem. The first analysis led to the setup of safer systems within the framework of current standards. They also led to a proposal to highway authorities, suggesting experimentation on jobsite organization, initially for mobile jobsites but with the possibility of extension to fixed jobsites. The approach has always been applied with the twofold objective of protecting workers at jobsites, as well as the motorist and other, sometimes careless, users of the motorway network. (A)
