Abstract

This paper is a training-reference manual that explains how to examine vehicle lamps involved in traffic accidents and how to interpret this information. The major part of the paper deals with the effects of a crash on lamps and four kinds of bulb impacts are listed: hot impact, shock, cold impact shock, hot bulb break, and cold bulb break. The effect of rollover, direction of impact, and exposure to weather on lamp filament are also discussed.
