Abstract

Simplified braking models were used to analyse the braking distances, braking efficiencies and traffic signal clearance times for a range of truck types operating at a variety of speeds under different loading conditions on pavements with various skid resistances. The analyses suggest that the existing standards for signal timing and alignment design should be carefully evaluated in the light of the truck braking capabilities summarized in this report.
