Abstract

As a result of their open- pore structure, noise- reducing surfacings are characterized by a lowering of sound level and also by rapid water drainage and simultaneous prevention of aquaplaning and spraying. In 1986 and 1987 numerous test stretches in the Federal Republic of Germany were surfaced with noise- reducing bituminous wearing courses. Similar wearing courses and surfacings were used in other European countries. The construction of such pavements are discussed.
