Abstract

This paper describes a device capable of measuring the roadprofile with high accuracy while travelling at motorway speed. The system utilizes a minimum of onboard hardware and commercially available transducers. Its development was prompted by a need to provide a stable reference for road roughness mesuring systems in australia. Other uses in australia include the study of the characteristics of roads, investigations into changes in road profile associated with the structural deterioration of pavements and research into the pavement damaging effects and impact on ride comfort of different truck suspensions.
