During the project "Autonomes Fahren", the Laser Scanner LD AF was developed by IBEO Lasertechnik GmbH. This laser scanner is capable of delivering high-resolution high-range data about the vehicle environment. Its built-in signal processing includes a complete object tracking algorithm which effectively frees the host computer from the task of sensor signal processing. The detected objects are sent to the host computer via a standard CAN bus. Using this object data, applications like a collision avoidance system were successfully implemented.
