Abstract
A series of roadblock inspection was undertaken to determine whether late model vehicles had enough mechanical defects to need inspection. A sample of 3.100 cars was inspected in the study. Not all cars were checked for overall defect. Of the recent cars checked for headlight aim, 84.4% failed; for lights other then headlights the failure rate was 22.4% and for front ends 18.8%. These failure rates for recent cars are higher than the failure rates for older cars inspected in regular procedures.
