Abstract

La Rochelle's Autoplus is a concept that covers all collective transport modes (individual being walking, bicycling or using one's car). Marketing public transport in new ways and introducing new technologies result in a wide array of new (or newly defined) products: the Autoplus family of boat rides ("Sea-bus"), yellow bicycles, electric cars, buses adapted for special groups, taxis with a fixed price, etc. Modern information and ticketing systems support this marketing of public transport, which is also favoured by institutional factors. Car traffic is met in La Rochelle with broad spectrum antibiotics, sending off a host of competing products. Autoplus is 'the art of pulling'.
