Abstract
The average production of private cars is estimated to increase by 2% per year during the next decade. The same growth trend is also valid for other vehicles. Those potentially significant increases would imply strong consideration by road network planners. Nevertheless, in the short run, the automobile industry is facing some major challenges which among other things are due to the environmental problems.
