Abstract

The stealing of a car just for the temporary use of the vehicle, has increased considerably during the last twenty years, particularly among the young. In Belgium these car thefts are assimilated with the normal theft legislation. The difficulties presented by this assimilation and the specific nature of joy-riding are discussed. Jurisprudence and literature on juvenile car thieves in various countries is cited.
