Abstract

Urban mobility plans are tools issued from the Clean Air Act, French law enacted in 1996. The goal of the urban mobility plans is to manage a complex system taking into account the interface between transportation and urban planning policies in order to promote `sustainable' development. In the Paris region, because of the size of the city, the central state is in charge of the urban mobility plan. It has to be a tool for the urban project for the region: the goal is to build a city able to match with the other main European cities and, at the same time, able to promote the quality of life for all inhabitants. (A) The English title of this paper is: Urban mobility plan, part of the Paris region urban strategy.
