Lead intoxication in automotive sports.

Abstract

A new source of lead intoxication is described. A survey of race car drivers and mechanics disclosed 35% to have laboratory evidence of high leas exposure and 10% with some clinical signs of significant lead exposure. Epidemiological survey revealed improper exposure to solvents used for cleaning the dismantled engines between races, which contained high lead concentrations obtained form dissolved engine deposits.
