Learning by doing, doing is learning : moving towards a visible ITS in Brabant.

ITS can also play an important role at regional and local levels. The Province of Noord- Brabant is a pioneer in this context. In 1999 an exploratory study was started into the possibilities of applying new technologies in traffic and transport policy. The study identifies primary areas of attention on which the Province should focus, such as road safety. Experiments have now been carried out in all these areas, pilots have been started and projects are being prepared. Ultimately, ITS must be embedded in the organization's primary work processes so that it becomes less vulnerable than it would be if it remained the restricted domain of a handful of specialists. Significant steps have recently been taken towards achieving this goal.
