Abstract

The risk for the pedestrians when crossing the road on a pedestrian crossing is about 1.7. greater during nighttime than in daylight. After the installation of lighting supports for the lighting of zebra crossings in Switzerland there was a considerable decrease in accidents in which pedestrians were involved. Recommendations are presented for the exact positions of lighting supports and the level of luminance.
