Legislation and administrative services given in Japan for improved road safety of riders on mopeds with total exhaust volume 50 c.c. or less : a case study.

Abstract

In 1984, number of road traffic accidents and the casualties decreased than previous year after 4 years consecutive increase. However, among such decrease, fatalities of moped, 50 c.c or less, showed exceptionally the increase in particular. After in-depth analysis on the moped riders fatal accidents, 3 new legislation and administrative services were prepared and put into force one by one, calming down the raising casualties for late 3 years, while casualties other than moped riders were on a little rise for the same period.
