Abstract
Increasing the capacity of the road network is a particular concern of the road authorities. A study is made of the extent to which a decrease can be made in the width of individual traffic lanes at signal-controlled junctions without a substantial reduction in safety taking place. Moreover a study is made of the effects of increasing the capacity of junctions, together with proposals for the optimum utilization of the available traffic space.
