After a presentation of the research done by manufacturers to reduce the costs of new intermediate transit systems, this paper examines the implementation domain of these systems particularly concerning their potential to meet passenger demand, Finally, an analysis and a comparison of estimated investment costs of these systems under normal and extreme operating conditions are made. These systems could present an investment opportunity for developing countries, and have already been adopted in some networks. (A) The English title of the paper is: "Emergence of intermediate urban transit systems".
