Abstract

An instruction program on cycle training and education for primary school children has been developed. Cycling in traffic is hazardous for inexperenced cyclists. Especially young children who have just learned how to cycle, are not yet able to recognize potential danger. Evidently, it is most desirable to teach and practice cycling. This project focuses explicitely on the parents' role in this matter and the main object of this project was to motivate parents to practice cycling with their children in real traffic environment. If children learn how to to behave in real traffic, there will be less reasons for parents to bring them by car to school. Not only will this lead to a reduction of the use of car mobility, but it will also make the traffic situation around schools more organized and safer. Furthermore, it may have a positive effect on the environment. (A)
