Abstract

The purpose of safety evaluation is defined. A wide variety of evaluation methods is in use today. Evaluations have been made of (1) the infrastructure in the countryside (2) the infrastructure and traffic in urban areas (3) measures concerning the user (4) measures dealing with vehicles, and (5) means of alerting the emergency services. The principal difficulties we encountered related to estimating the reliability of an evaluation, and predicting the effectiveness of a measure when extended from local application of general usage.
