This article describes a speed awareness course in the UK offered to drivers who have been detected driving slightly over the speed limit. Speed is a factor in many collisions but is seen as acceptable behaviour by most drivers. The aim of the course is to change attitudes by motivating drivers to look at speed limits, highlighting the dangers of speeding and encouraging safe use of speed. The company Drivetech (UK) operates two Speed Awareness Schemes, supported by police and safety camera partnerships. The scheme features an interactive computer-based assessment, from which a personal report for each driver is drawn suggesting how their could be improved.
