Abstract

During recent years, the authors have been involved in a number of traffic telematics projects aiming at traffic information services. This paper reports on the experiences gathered implementing traffic telematics systems to support the realisation of these services. The conceptual approach is presented, that was chosen and refined during these years. It is based on GIS functionality used to manage information having a location reference and to offer topology and topography information as configuration parameters for traffic models. This system approach has been implemented in different projects.
