Abstract

A brief description is given of the road accident problem, the objective of road accident case studies in South Africa, the constitution of the investigating team, and the methods employed in the collection of data and in the analysis of individual cases. Preliminary findings are discussed in terms of performance failures and attributes of road users, vehicles and the traffic way. Attention is also given to factors found to have contributed to pedestrian accidents.
