Abstract

There are numerous strategic initiatives ongoing in many countries in Europe aimed at providing better access to public transport information, and for end-to-end multimodal travel information to the traveller. This short paper provides an overview of European and UK developments and areas of synergy. In addition, this paper briefly describes the TRIDENT project which at a European level aims to generate common specifications for the exchange and sharing of information to support multimodal travel information services. This 30 month EU-funded project will examine and prototype the use of Internet technologies, including XML and CORBA, for the standardised exchange or sharing of data. Important interactions with parallel developments in the UK, including PTI2000, Journey Web and TransXChange, are considered.
