Abstract

LibeRTiN is the light rail thematic network (TN) on standardisation and harmonisation of light rail transport (LRT) funded by the European Commission under the 5th Framework Programme for Research and Development. The active participation of external experts is an important part of the TN. The main objectives of LibeRTiN are to accelerate the establishment of an internal market for LRT, to promote the attractiveness, affordability, flexibility and sustainability of LRT by reducing the costs of modular components, harmonising operating rules and enhancing system performance, and to enhance the competitiveness of the light rail mode. The three phases of the LibeRTiN project are described and the companies and institutions represented in LibeRTiN are listed.
