Abstract

Road safety measures in the Netherlands are increasingly based on a quantitative analysis of their cost-effectiveness. It is imperative for a rational decision process that all relevant effects of measures be quantified as objectively as possible. The relative importance of these effets is, however, determined by a subjective value judgement. The effects and costs of roadside objects have been built into a decision model. An extensive example is given of the application of the decision model at the installation of public lighting.
