Abstract

The quality of a street lighting installation depends as much on the uniformity of the luminance level. A good uniformity generally require closely placed lanterns where as a required average luminance can also be obtained along spacings by use of light sources with high luminous flux. The optimal solution from as well a technical as an economic point of view is undoubtedly to be found between the two extreme solutions, and a design method was developed on the basis of determination of the maximum permissible spacing at which the street lighting installation can just fulfills a uniformity requirement.
