Abstract

The advantages and use of Light Rail Vehicles for clients, politicians and the public in general are demonstrated by use of concrete, manufactured examples such as CITADIS Montpellier, Dublin, Melbourne.... The paper deals with a variety of subjects such as: - Why should a tram be used instead of a car? - How to integrate a Light Rail Vehicle perfectly in the image of a city without destroying it? - The investment for a tram system is very heavy and the construction causes a lot of trouble in a city. These questions which concern both the end user and the client are answered and supported by real examples. The answers and arguments will demonstrate that the Light Rail Vehicle is a comfortable and modern way of traveling, that it underlines the spirit of a city and enriches it by linking different districts until then completely separated. New technologies in the construction of tramway lines lead to shorter lead-times, more cost-efficiency and less disturbance in city centers. For the covering abstract see ITRD E128239.
