Light rail vehicles in Germany : accessible for the elderly and handicapped.

Abstract

This short article presents statistics of people in the old Federal Republic of Germany who have some form of physical handicap. The amount travelled by such people broken down by transport mode is also provided. Technical details about the design and dimensions of the low floor light rail vehicles used in the cities of Würzburg, Kassel, Bremen and Vöv are provided. Statistics for the numbers of low floor and low compartment light rail vehicles currently on order are also given.
