Abstract

The part played by the tyre in limiting braking capability is investigated. Test findings reveal that the ability to stop in the shortest possible distance is a function of the maximum ability of the tire to sustain braking shear forces at the tire-road interface. Load has been found to be a dominal factor affecting dry peak traction. Speed sensitivity of dry peak traction properties has been found to be a less significant effects.
