Abstract

The Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership (LRSP) was formed following a Best Value review of Lincolnshire County Council's Road Safety services. On average, there are 80 fatal and 500 serious collisions on Lincolnshire's roads per year, resulting in 670 casualties at a cost to the economy of over £150 million. The aims of the LRSP are to reduce the number of road casualty collisions and to provide an integrated approach that co-ordinates all aspects of road safety in the County. Five LRSP initiatives are described: driver improvement schemes (for young drivers and as an alternative to prosecution for motorists who have committed minor motoring offences), speed reduction seminars (as an alternative to prosecution for motorists who have marginally exceeded the speed limit), the provision of `high profile' signing on loan to Parish Councils to raise awareness of the speed limit, the `Staying Alive' campaign (for raising awareness of the consequences of driver error), and the `Invest to Save Budget'.
