Abstract

This study investigates the viability of real-time traffic monitoring based on location referencing that originates from general mobile phones. In this type of traffic monitoring, there remain a number of issues regarding the accuracy and reliability of travel time estimation. A feasible scheme needs to focus on technical solutions rather than technological improvements, and should have robustness towards various types of complexities that represent reality. Computational efficiency is also one of the requirements to process mobile phone data on a real-time basis. In this paper, an implemented scheme of travel time estimation is evaluated from these viewpoints. For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653
