Abstract

TRB E-Circular 201: Linking the Past to the Future: Lessons from History About Emerging Technology explores the presentations made at a one-day, invitational workshop that took place on June 13, 2014 and was hosted by the Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office (JPO) of the U.S. Department of Transportation and the History Committee of the Transportation Research Board. The workshop explored how technology can be enhanced by an understanding of the social and institutional aspects of innovation reflected in the adoption over many decades of earlier innovations in transportation.
