Abstract

A new kind of traffic guidance and information system is being tested in Berlin. Infrared transmitters are receivers (beacons) and are installed at 240 intersections, and these transmit route recommendations to 700 appropriately equipped vehicles. These recommendations are indicated visually and audibly to the drivers and thus guide them to their destinations on the quickest route in each case, taking into account the predicted traffic situation.
