Abstract

The effect of noise barriers is dependent to the source of the noise. Traffic noise barriers should be placed directly beside the road to have an optimal effect, but they are then an obstacle in the roadside. From the rather limited literature three options for solution are discussed (a) a noise barrier combined with a safety barrier on a small distance . (b) the noise barrier is placed on the safety barrier or is fitted in front with a guard-rail construction, or (c) the noise barrier functions as a safety barrier (integration of functions) .
