Abstract

The report records observations and contacts made during a visit to Europe 1985. Major topics of interest were traffic management and street design in residential areas, safety monitoring and evaluation, and bicycle safety. The 30 km/h streets and zones in several countries, and the associated traffic management installations, seems to be a more useful general model than the slow speed shared street (e.g. the woonerf) for Australian suburbs.
