Abstract

The escalating availability and power of microcomputers are bound to have a profound influence in transport planning and design. This paper describes the development and application of a microcomputer version (MULATM) of the local area traffic planning model LATM, as a pointer to the possibilities for using microcomputers in transport /traffic planning. MULATM is a model representing "state- of- the art" technology in local area traffic management. It can analyse local network performance under a wide range of conditions including full and partial street closures, installation of speed control devices, signal co- ordination, roundabouts, and alternative streetscape designs.
